Sky Medical Technology Inspires the Next Generation Through Hands-On STEM Workshop

High Wycombe, London, 25th February 2026 – Sky Medical Technology Ltd is proud to reaffirm its commitment to STEM education following a highly successful careers workshop delivered at Sir John Heron Primary School on 16th January.

The workshop was delivered on behalf of Sky Medical Technology by Harshini Patel Kundu, Process Engineering Manager, whose expertise in advanced manufacturing brought authenticity and real-world relevance to the session.

As part of the school’s careers day for Years 3–6, pupils were introduced to a wide range of professions, including archaeology, architecture, software engineering and policing. Sky Medical Technology was the sole representative from a science and medical manufacturing background — a presence that proved both distinctive and impactful.

Bringing Medical Manufacturing to Life

To give students a tangible understanding of how medical products are made, the session simulated a real-world manufacturing line. Pupils were divided into teams and assigned critical roles: Sorter, Assembler, Quality Control and Packaging. Their task was to build a LEGO model — presented to them as a medical product — precisely according to specification.
Working within timed one-minute production cycles, students were challenged to maximise output while maintaining quality. After each round, they identified bottlenecks in their processes, redesigned workflows and tried again.

The results were inspiring.

Children quickly demonstrated problem-solving skills, teamwork and creative thinking. They analysed inefficiencies, reallocated responsibilities and introduced new systems to improve throughput — mirroring the continuous improvement methodologies used in advanced manufacturing environments. As the session progressed, healthy competition emerged between teams, with groups observing one another’s shortfalls and adapting their own strategies accordingly.

Beyond the energy and enthusiasm in the room, the exercise instilled two fundamental principles that underpin Sky’s operations:
• The importance of precision and quality in medical product manufacturing
• The value of efficiency, collaboration and innovation in delivering better healthcare solutions

Why STEM Education Matters — Especially for Girls

Early exposure to STEM is critical. Research consistently shows that children begin forming career perceptions during primary school years. By introducing complex concepts such as manufacturing systems, quality control and process optimisation in an accessible and engaging format, we help demystify science and engineering careers.

This is particularly important for girls, who remain underrepresented in many STEM fields. Visible role models and hands-on experiences at a young age can significantly influence confidence and career aspiration. Workshops such as this demonstrate that science, engineering and medical technology are creative, collaborative and impactful careers — open to all.
Encouraging more young women to pursue STEM is not only a matter of equality; it is a strategic imperative for innovation. Diverse teams drive better problem-solving, stronger design thinking and improved patient outcomes — values that align directly with Sky Medical Technology’s mission.

Investing in the Future Workforce

Initiatives like this reflect more than community engagement — they demonstrate long-term strategic thinking.

The future of medical technology depends on a skilled, innovative and diverse workforce. By actively supporting STEM education at primary level, Sky Medical Technology is contributing to the development of tomorrow’s engineers, scientists and manufacturing leaders.
The overwhelmingly positive response from students and staff reinforces the value of practical, experience-led learning. Following the success of this workshop, Sky plans to deliver similar sessions at two additional schools in the near future, expanding its outreach and impact.

A Commitment Beyond the Classroom

Nazia Ishaq, Headteacher, Sir John Heron Primary School, comments – “We were delighted to welcome Harshini Patel Kundu from Sky Medical Technology to Sir John Heron Primary School. The interactive manufacturing workshop not only brought real-world science and engineering to life for our pupils, but also inspired them to think creatively and collaboratively about problem-solving. Experiences like this play a valuable role in broadening children’s understanding of future career paths, particularly in STEM, and we are extremely grateful to Sky Medical Technology for their commitment to nurturing young minds.”

Harshini Patel Kundu, Process Engineering Manager, Sky Medical Technology, comments – “It was a privilege to spend the day with such enthusiastic and inquisitive pupils. Watching them analyse bottlenecks, redesign their processes and collaborate so effectively was genuinely inspiring. Introducing children to manufacturing and medical technology at an early age helps them see that STEM careers are creative, impactful and accessible. If we can spark curiosity now — particularly among girls who may not yet see themselves in these roles — we are helping to build a more diverse and innovative future for our industry.”

Bernard Ross, Sky Medical Technology’s Founder and CEO, comments – “At Sky Medical Technology, we believe that advancing healthcare innovation begins long before university or the workplace — it begins in classrooms where curiosity is sparked and confidence is built. This workshop at Sir John Heron Primary School was more than a careers day activity; it was an investment in aspiration, diversity and the future of STEM. We are proud to play our part in inspiring the next generation and remain committed to nurturing the talent that will shape the future of medical technology.

For our investors, customers and stakeholders, this initiative underscores a simple but powerful message: Sky Medical Technology is building not only advanced healthcare solutions, but also the foundations of the workforce that will sustain innovation for decades to come.
