Sky Medical Technology announces regulatory approval of geko® device in Japan

Sky Medical Technology has welcomed the news that its geko device, an innovative neuromuscular electrostimulator, has successfully been registered for use in Japan. This milestone marks an important expansion into the second largest global medical device market, complementing Sky’s existing presence across the US and Europe.

With a healthcare system renowned for its inclusivity and strong emphasis on preventive care, Japan prides itself on its commitment to medical innovation and patient care. Home to more than 1 in 10 people aged 80 or older, there is an ongoing need for medical technology and diagnostics in the Japanese market.

In 2024, the Japan wearable medical devices market size reached $1.9 billion, with its adoption of global devices changing the lives of those across the country.

Breakthrough technology

Following its entry into the Japanese market, Sky aims to collaborate with local healthcare providers to improve patient care and expand access to this innovative therapy. With multiple successful global adoptions already in place, the geko device is already widely recognised for its clinical efficacy and ease of use across various medical applications, including oedema reduction, the acceleration of chronic wound healing, and the prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

“We are thrilled to receive regulatory approval for the geko device in Japan,” said Sky CEO and Founder, Bernard Ross. “This approval allows us to introduce our breakthrough technology to the Japanese healthcare market, helping patients benefit from enhanced circulation for better patient outcomes.”
