25 Mar Sky Medical partners with SMS Medical to prevent edema and DVT in the US
Sky Medical Technology, parent company of Firstkind Ltd, has announced a significant step forward in orthopaedic recovery after entering a limited distribution agreement with SMS Medical, LLC, a leading provider of orthopaedic device solutions in the Southeast United States. The partnership will bring Sky’s innovative geko® device to more patients needing post-operative and trauma-based care.
SMS will sell Sky’s wearable muscle pump activator, the geko, within its orthopaedic product portfolio for post-operative and trauma-based edema (swelling), and for the prevention of DVT (blood clots).
The partnership
The exclusive offering will address edema and DVT prevention across various lower limb orthopaedic procedures, including total hip and knee replacements, foot and ankle surgeries, and lower extremity trauma cases. The geko device will also complement SMS Medical’s Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) solutions, which are known as “fast track” or “rapid recovery” protocols.
Commenting on the deal, Joseph Collins, VP, Business Development at SMS Medical said: “We are excited to have the geko device as part of our orthopaedic product portfolio. Edema can significantly impede recovery following elective orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedic trauma and is one of the most common challenges our surgeons encounter when patients return for their initial post-op visit. Clinically proven to reduce edema, we see the geko device as a groundbreaking technology that not only enhances patient recovery but also reduces healthcare costs.”
