Clinicians at the hospitals are deploying the geko device to accelerate chronic wound healing, reduce lower limb oedema (swelling), following orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedic trauma, and to prevent deadly blood clots in medically ill and immobile patients.
Traditional therapies such as compression bandaging and anticoagulants, although effective, can often fall short due to patient discomfort, application complexity, or bleeding risks. The geko device overcomes these complexities, delivering a safe, non-invasive, and easy-to-use alternative when standard of care cannot be prescribed – and in respect to oedema control – breaks new ground in addressing a burden that, until now, has had few tools to resolve pre- and post-operative swelling complications – complications that can impede wound closure, decrease muscle strength and stall rehabilitation1,2.
Dr Ibrahim Riza, Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, describes the geko device as “game-changing,” noting its effectiveness not only in standard indications like VTE prevention but also in addressing lymphedema, and oedema related to maternity and travel.
“By offering my patients the geko device, I provide them with a safe, comfortable, and effective way to support their vascular health, without the need for drugs or bulky equipment.”
Sky’s expansion across the UAE is central to its mission to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare system costs with advanced, drug-free solutions.
With the global wound care market projected to reach $27.6 billion by 2027, the VTE treatment space growing toward $4.8 billion by 2030, and the global lower limb orthopaedic and trauma-based oedema market expected to surpass $21 billion by 20283,4, demand for non-invasive, scalable solutions like the geko® device continues to rise. Sky’s growing presence in the UAE reinforces its position as a leader in next-generation medtech – and sets the stage for rapidly mounting regional and international growth.
