Celebrating the King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation – and Why the Award Matters to Us

I am incredibly proud to share that Sky Medical Technology has been awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation. This is a significant moment for our team, and one that reflects years of dedicated work across research, development, and clinical application.

At the heart of this recognition is the geko® device – our non-invasive technology that is helping to change the way chronic wounds are treated. Clinically proven to more than double the rate of wound healing, and reduce pain fast, the geko device is being increasingly adopted across the NHS and international healthcare systems. It’s designed to improve outcomes for patients, reduce pressure on healthcare providers, and ultimately support more sustainable models of care.

Chronic wounds are a major global health challenge – costly, persistent, and often incredibly difficult for patients to live with. Our goal has always been to address this need with a solution that’s both effective and accessible. The geko device uses neuromuscular electrostimulation to increase blood flow in the lower limb, which can dramatically speed up healing, and reduce pain, particularly in hard-to-heal wounds like venous leg ulcers.

What makes this award so meaningful is that it recognises both innovation and impact. It validates not just the science behind the geko device, but the way it’s being used in real-world clinical settings to improve healing, reduce pain, and enhance quality of life.

We’re seeing strong momentum – adoption is growing, and early results from both clinical trials and everyday practice are outstanding. We’ve had consistent quarter-over-quarter growth in NHS prescriptions, and we’re hearing encouraging feedback from clinicians and patients alike.

This is a proud moment, but also a motivating one. There’s still more to do – more ulcer types and healthcare systems to reach, more patients to help, and more opportunities to show what medtech innovation can achieve when it’s grounded in evidence and driven by need.

Thank you to everyone who’s been part of this journey. We’re honoured to receive the King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, and we remain committed to continuing the work that brought us here.
